Expats in the Philippines

Workers from other countries, known as expats, enjoy their new life living in the Philippines. A local article cited the Expat Explorer survey, which indicated that 52% of expats in the Philippines are happier than they are back in their home of origin. Almost half of the foreign parents surveyed claimed that they felt at home in the Philippines after arriving for six months or less. They mentioned that they love the Philippines because of its “affectionate, indulgent, and supporting” atmosphere, which is consistent with the country’s title of having very welcoming hospitality.

Types of Visas for Foreigners Entering the Philippines

Admittedly, the Philippines is one of the top countries expats consider visiting. If you’re a foreigner who wishes to see the beauty of the Pearl of the Orient, here are the following visa you can consider filing:

  • Tourist Visa or 9(A)

A non-immigrant visa that is granted to foreign citizens who visit the Philippines for a limited time, whether for tourist purposes, business, or medical reasons.

  • Student Visa

A student visa is awarded to a foreigner who has been accepted by an authorized Philippine higher education institution.

  • Special Non-Immigrant Visa or 47(A)(2)

This visa requires sponsorship from the employer and is valid for the duration of the contract/term of office or one year, whichever comes first.

  • Pre-Arranged Employee Visa Commercial or 9(G)

This is the usual work visa for foreign nationals working in the Philippines. This visa allows the bearer to enter and exit the country many times while working for a firm that is registered or licensed to do business in the Philippines. However, a requirement for this visa is the Alien Employment Permit (AEP), which is issued by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

  • Special Resident Retiree Visa (SRRV)

Non-immigrant visa provided to Philippine Retirement Authority candidates with minimum deposit. This visa category allows indefinite residency and many entries.

  • Special Investor’s Resident Visa (SIRV)

This is for foreigners who can invest at least $75,000 in the Philippines. If they retain their investments and qualifications, visa holders can stay in the nation permanently.
